Just kidding—about the movement and the British accent—but really, how is one supposed to start one of these emails?
I wrote another book. I really hope you like it.
I’m composing this email on Tuesday, but by the time it’s delivered to your inbox on Friday I’ll probably be hiding in a closet hyperventilating at the thought of no one showing up to the launch party—or the opposite crisis—too many people showing up and the restaurant owner getting mad at me! 🤪
Or my current Tuesday pm anxiety, that Amazon will keep rejecting the print version and whomever shows up to purchase a book on Friday will find that there’s no book to purchase… 🤯 (*resolved Wednesday am)
Or speaking of showing up, that the restaurant where we’re planning to have the launch will remain closed for “multi-day maintenance” as it was when I drove by an hour ago… (*resolved Wednesday pm)
I actually had a good laugh after that drive-by. The feeling of everything being chaotic, last-minute, and completely out of control—it’s a familiar one. It reminded me of life in Turkey, which I think is a great start to this book going live!
Which brings me back nicely around to—here we are—Launch Day.
I did write another book. And I do really hope you like it. I may have told you this before, but a friend called it my love letter to Turkey, and I hope that’s how it comes across. I’ve written the best I could to represent that beautiful, complex country and those lovely, complex people.
And if this book does start a movement, I hope it’s of people considering a visit to Turkey, or befriending a Turk you discover in the wild. It happens—I just met one in a coffee shop here in Boise and we embraced as old friends after two minutes of sohbetiyoring—that’s Turklish for chit-chatting, and you might want to get used to it because there’s a bit of Turklish in the book.
So without further ado, you can buy the ebook or print version from Amazon here, or you can get an autographed copy mailed to your doorstep by clicking here.
In case you’re not an unknown author or related to one, let me just tell you that the very best way to support me is to let people know you found a new book you loved (pardon the assumption 😉). Word of mouth still beats the algorithm every time.
Thank you, friends! I’ve been writing for 25 years now, in all kinds of seasons, and on several continents, and your support keeps me encouraged!
